ByIt was a long, long wait for Playstation 4 owners to finally get in on the wasteland modding action, and when it arrived, fans weren't exactly pleased by the extra limitations above and beyond what's found on the Xbox One edition.Even now, months after mods have been available, the number of PS4 entries continues to lag far behind what's on tap over on the other side of the console fence. Sadly, due to the restrictive nature of what's allowed on console mods, it's unlikely we're going to get an epic total conversion like you'd see on the PC.The lack of space and inability to add in huge new assets just won't allow for such major changes to the base game. Don't let that kill your enthusiasm for PS4 modding entirely though, as there's still several overhaul mods that significantly change up the Fallout 4 experience on the Playstation platform.Over the next several slides we cover some of the best of the best in PS4 overhaul mods that you should be trying out immediately. Unified Clothing OverhaulFor a change in the game's aesthetics and how you can make your character look while stomping across the Commonwealth, this is the mod that should unquestionably be downloaded straight away. The UCO mod completely opens up the clothing opportunities, allowing you to craft essentially any outfit you can imagine while still have the benefits of armor. If it's something that appears in the game anywhere on any NPC, you can now equip it as your outfit.Don't like how your current armor looks but prefer its stats?
No problem, with UCO you can make exterior clothing invisible, so the defensive qualities remain while the cosmetics are shifted to whatever style you prefer underneath. Overgrowth Forest OverhaulLike a much more invasive and complete version of the Simple Green mod (see the next slide), this Overgrowth offering turns most areas of the Commonwealth into a much more verdant forest. It makes the entire Fallout 4 experience less dreary and empty-seeming, with vegetation overtaking the Boston area long after the radiation has subsided 200+ years after the bombs first dropped. The color scheme is probably the most frequently sited visual problem with the modern Fallout games, and mods like this handily take care of that concern. Wacky Weapons WorkshopThe lack of external assets really hampers weapon mods on the PS4, but one forward-thinking player put together something really interesting just by changing how weapons can be crafted. Now you can put together just about any combination imaginable - including some that really shouldn't exist, like adding a fatman launcher to a revolver. Who doesn't want to launch nukes from their handgun? The mod also lets you manually add in multiple legendary effects to a wackified weapon, allowing you to craft some truly outrageous guns and melee weapons without having to kill legendary monsters and hope you randomly get something good.Remember seeing some of the and laughing at how ridiculous some combos could become? Get ready for that, in weapon form.
Scrap That SettlementHaving primarily played Fallout 4 on the PC, it didn't occur to me until seeing this mod that console players are still having to deal with Bethesda's terrible settlement system in its original form. My sincerest apologies, console peons, because that sounds like a real bummer. If you want more control over how your settlements look, this very nifty mod lets you scrap almost everything - grass, rocks, bodies, and all sorts of objects that weren't originally scrappable.New versions of this mod are slated to land soon that will allow you to scrap whole creatures and structures as well. Zombie WalkersThe feral ghouls in the Fallout universe have always flirted with being zombies, but they never quite go the whole way there.
Putting you in an episode of The Walking Dead (or any given classic zombie flick), this overhaul mod takes ghouls and makes them into a shambling horde of the living dead.Unfortunately, this PS4 version is a bit stripped down from the PC mod of the same name, but it still gets the job done for console players. Feral ghouls are renamed to zombies, sprinting is disabled, and health is modified so that head shots appropriately take them out. A few animations are also tweaked as well for more of a horror feel. These modified ghoul zombies also come in big herds that you don't want to get caught in! Needless to say, this pretty drastically changes the feel and tone of a Fallout 4 playthrough.
Hiding under a dumpster won't keep you safe here. Plenty 'O ExplorationThis is an overhaul mod that fans have to put together every time a new Bethesda entry arrives, especially in the Fallout universe.
You'd think eventually the developer would get on this without the players having to do it.The game maps are always huge, with tons of areas to explore, but then you arrive at a specific location and most of the buildings and hallways can't be accessed and are just cosmetic. Whether doors that can't be opened or piles of rubble blocking your way, there's a distinct lack of indoor exploration.Fallout 4's rendition of this perennially needed fix, Plenty 'O Exploration, is currently in beta for PS4, but still provides a drastically needed service by adding in many new interior segments for a huge increase in the amount of area actually available to explore. This unofficial Fallout 4 game guide offers a complex description of all of the game's content and a very thorough explanation of its mechanics. All of this should be very helpful in achieving a 100% completion without any unnecessary troubles. The guide has been divided into three big parts. The first part contains a strategy guide. The strategy guide chapters offer info on topics such as creating and developing a character, engaging in combat, exploring the world or interacting with other people. The second large part of the guide is a walkthrough with detailed descriptions of all main and optional quests.
Each quest has descriptions of all of its available outcomes, as well info on how to unlock it and what types of rewards it has in store. The final third part of this guide is the world atlas. This enormous chapter contains primarily a high quality world map along with smaller maps of certain areas. Each map has a lot of icons informing mostly about the locations the player can unlock while exploring the world. Some of the more important locations (cities, outposts with friendly NPC's etc.) have been described in greater detail on separate pages.
Another big part of the world atlas are the collectibles. The guide tells where the player should look for the bobbleheads, unique books and other items of great value. Fallout 4 is the next installment of the famous cRPG franchise set in the postapocalyptic world. This time around the players can visit the wastelands around the American city of Boston. The game is filled with tons of interesting things to do and it's also non-linear since many of the choices can lead to different outcomes.
Colours used in our guide. The brown color was used to mark unique friendly characters you can talk to. It also marks some of the more important enemies you have to defeat as a part of ongoing quests.
The blue color was used to highlight the names of the locations you visit during the game. The names in our guide are the same as the ones displayed on the world map. The green color was used to inform about the important items you can find in the game's world, receive from the NPC's as rewards or buy from the merchants. The orange color was used to mark the situations where relying on a certain perk is required to perform a more advanced activity like opening a complex lock or persuading an NPC to do something for the main character.Additionally we've used the bold font to mark the quest titles.Jacek 'Stranger' Halas, Patrick 'yXu' Homa, Patryk Greniuk. First of all, the more powerful system you have, the better resolution and faster animation speed you enjoy, whereas PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are locked on 30 FPS in 1080p.The story of Fallout 4 starts off in Boston suburbs, a few moments before a catastrophic nuclear attack. During this short prologue you meet the hero’s family and create your character (male or female), by adjusting his or her appearance and distributing skill points. A moment later the aforementioned attack occurs, which separates the hero from his family and puts him into fallout shelter no. The action proper starts 200 years later, when your character comes out to the surface and starts his struggle for survival in an unfriendly, post-apocalyptic environment.Depending on individual preferences, you can play Fallout 4 in first or third person perspective. Gameplay mechanics is based on solutions known to Fallout 3 veterans. Back in the game are such landmark features as S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Attribute system or V.A.T.S.
Aiming system that allows to make a precision shot to a selected part of an enemy’s body. TIn comparison with the previous installments in the series, crafting system was much expanded, letting you recycle various objects and use them to create entirely new items or even construct buildings to provide shelter to the protagonist, his dog, and other survivors. The game offers 50 base weapons, all of which can be subjected to over 700 modifications.
Those that know me will know that, despite having, Fallout 4 is not a game that I think highly of. For me, it falls into the same trap that I think most Bethesda games do. What it gains in open world exploration, it looses in everything else.
I tend to refer to Bethesda games, including Fallout 3 and 4, as “open world simulators” rather than “role-playing games”. Despite this, Fallout 4 does have a few features and characters that I thoroughly enjoy, such as settlement construction or Piper Wright. Modding Fallout 4 helps keep the content I enjoy engaging, drawing me back to the game again and again.
Here’s my full list of Fallout 4 mods that I use to enhance my experience in the wastes of the Commonwealth.Characters, Armour and Weapons.: Adds a 5.56 receiver to the, so that this much better looking weapon can use the plentiful ammo type used by the.: Makes women taller than men. Don’t ask.: A dependency for several other mods, the AWKCR is a framework used by modders to standardise certain mod parameters to harmonise development and prevent mod conflicts.: Adds some notable changes to how armour works, such as permitting the wearing of armour with any outfit and rebuilding the entire clothing mod system from scratch. Definitely worth using.: Does exactly what it says on the tin. Lowers your weapon when you are out of combat.: Makes a few cosmetic changes to Piper to alter her appearance. I almost always travel with Piper, so it feels natural to have a modification that I believe enhances her somehow.: Adds slave shock collars as apparel items. Fun to pair with Prisoner Shacklesand the built-in pillory for unruly settlers or Raider gameplay.: Another dependency of some other modifications. I don’t use it per se, but I hav it enabled because it is required by the next mod.: Makes some of the body forms less awful.
No more anorexia nervosa for my player characters.: Not exactly lore-accurate to, but I like the outfit nonetheless.: Another mod. The.308 is the most powerful receiver that the Combat Rifle can be outfitted with, but in the base game, it has no automatic version. This mod rectifies that.: A fantastic collection of apparel accessories for personalising and beautifying your Sole Survivor and their companions.: Another excellent collection of apparel, this time in the form of outfits.: A simple mod that provides a bare-bones companion of. I felt she should’ve been made a companion in the first place, so this helps get over the grudge I feel for how her involvement in the story ends.: A minor but wonderful mod that adds craftable Legion armour to the Commonwealth Wasteland. A perfect companion to the Legion Workshop mod in the Settlements section.: Much like the previous mod, this one brings another piece of the Mojave to Boston by introducing Ranger Veteran Armor.: Yet Another Armour Pack, bringing its own styles and tastes in fashion to Diamond City’s Upper Stands.: An assault rifle. A nice assault rifle, but that’s about it.: Nothing is more annoying than having to unlock every single power armour paint job on your thirtieth playthrough.
This mod skips all of that fuss and unlocks them all at the start.Settlements.: Removes the need to wire turrets by granting them ambient power sourcing, like lights.: A whole bunch of options to alter your settlers. I personally use this mod to encourage more female settlers to migrate to my towns, but it has a lot more options built in.: Lets us use the giant Boston Airport area as an actual settlement by fixing the workshop.: Makes Far Harbor a little cleaner.
That’s it.: Adds various real-life flags that you can build in your settlements. The Union Flag goes especially well with the Radio Freedom mod in the section below.: Finally let’s you patch up those damn Castle walls.: Adds lifts to the overpasses over Finch Farm and Greygarden, so you don’t have to build awkward paths to get up there for your settlements.: A must-have for any serious settlement constructor, Homemaker adds tonnes of new kit to your workshops. Everything from entire building types such as greenhouses and bunkers to new decorations and furniture for every fashion trend.: Brings a selection of Legion and Legionesque decorations and fixtures from the Mojave to the Commonwealth. A great addition to the Legion armour mod above, made by the same mod author.: Let’s us keep that no good Commie hippie robot Professor Goodfeels at the Sunshine Tidings Co-op.: Get’s rid of the maximum cap on how much you can build in your settlements. May incur the wrath of the Deities of Performance.: No more fiddly placing of items on shelves only to knock them off or accidentally pick them back up. OCDecorator enables the placing of everything from Cram to Jangles the Moon Monkey as if it were a standard decoration!.: Goes well with the shock collar mentioned earlier for that perfect slaver-raider aesthetic.: A selection of modular structure parts so you can rebuild Sanctuary to its pre-war glamour and glory.: Want to build a giant settlement at Red Rocket, but frustrated by the encroaching fuel station preventing expansion? This mod’s got your back, stretching the borders of the Red Rocket settlement all the way to the Sanctuary bridge.: Yet Another Mod for fixing those blasted Castle walls!.: Essentially a replacement for the town bell and endless manual assignment of duties, Settlement Management Software adds a simple holotape that you can plug into any terminal to control your local settlers like a truly lazy dictator.: Makes those noisy turrets and generators quieten down a little.
Well, maybe a lot.: For some reason, Bethesda didn’t see fit to make the junk fences snap together, which rendered them essentially useless. Fortunately, modders come to our rescue yet again with this simple mod that adds snap points to every junk fence. Includes snap points for raised floors so you can use your junk walls as fortifications.: Another essential for the serious settlement architect. Adds various snappable wall, floor and roof segments of different styles that are already present in the Commonwealth, including bunkers, parking garages and townhouses.: Finally, a broom! Now you can sweep up, or rather scrap, some of the awful litter that litters your settlements.: I don’t think I need to explain this one, either.: Introduces an immersive selection of scavenger themed and trader themed workshop items to add a new rural caravan vibe to your favourite settlement.: Introduces many of the missing Vault rooms and content that really should’ve been included in the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on.: Reduces the falloff and fade of every Vault-Tec Workshop light, whilst increasing all of their effect radii. Complements the Workshop Overhaul below nicely.: Makes the constructable Vault lighting more realistic and includes new snap points on vault walls and ceilings.Quality of Life, Graphics and Sound.: Re-enables earning of achievements when you have mods enabled, which was disabled by Bethesda with the launch of their creator’s club.: Adding to the post-apocalyptic feel by introducing the one and only Bandit Radio of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
To the wasteland.: Companions running out of ammo for their late-game weapon and eradicating their own X-01 set is on of my biggest pet peeves with Fallout 4. This mod rectifies tat.: Hides armour from view with certain outfits without removing the armour’s effects. Stops you from looking suspicious or downright silly when you walk around with combat armour slapped over a dilapidated trench coat.: I always thought it was silly that the green jewel of the Commonwealth would have high walls and an impressive gate, only to leave the gate wide open the moment your character enters Diamond City for the first time. This mod makes the gate close, so you have to open it to enter the city each time you arrive in the area.: Adds some life, and actual features, to the home you can be given at Vault 81.: Helps reduce system resource consumption by reforming the rendering of distant textures.: Makes power armour function the way it used to – for longer than we will live.: You can probably guess what this does.: Removes the annoying news screen that appears when you launch Fallout 4.
The mod appears to have been removed from the Nexus, but I will include the link for completionism’s sake.: Removes the dark shading that appears along the bottom of the Power Armour HUD.: Optimises some of the game’s original textures to help improve the game’s otherwise horrendous performance usage.: Brings back some cut content for Piper’s initial interview with our intrepid Blue, fleshing out the quest so it seems less inane. and: Two sets of ponytail hairstyles and variations. I don’t go out of my way to use these, but they are very nice to have on hand.: I spend all that time romancing Piper, and I can’t even sleep in her bed? Well, not anymore! This mod allows sleeping on the beds in Publick Occurrences office in Diamond City.: Since the ridiculous merging of the radiation level and health points isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, the least we can do is have Stimpaks get rid of that green glow we keep picking up.: No more Yankee Doodle for me!
I haven't bought the game yet but I played it for a few hours at a friend, and I think overall it wasn't a very satisfying experience except for a few things. Now, I really liked the visuals, the game looks truly fantastic, and the locations are great (I really like Concord, for example), but there's a huge problem: exploring it seems pointless. There's only trash lying around and that's about it.
Well there a few notes and terminals here and there, but somehow exploration feels a lot more boring than in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (I loved these two games to death). On top of that, story, dialogue and voice acting seem to be pretty bad, like really bad. So I wonder maybe there are some mods that can kinda return the feel of Fallout 3 at least in terms of exploration?
Maybe adding new locations or somehow just adding interesting stuff to existing locations? I'm not sure if anyone feels the same but F3 felt a lot more satisfying to explore. Less pointless? Not sure exactly why. Visually the game is great but is very boring. I'd definitely not buy it to play vanilla, but if there're some good mods I'd consider buying.Just posting the mod's name is enough, I can then do my own research and see if that's what I'm looking for, so if you have anything in mind, please let me know. Thank you guys.
No idea about the mods. I agree on the story and dialogues. But they did make the trash valuable in FO4. You will need to pick it up if you want to mod weapons and armor. If you actually do settlement building you will need most of it. You can ignore the junk if you 'exploit' the game to make a gazillion in money.
Then you can buy all the raw materials needed and skip picking up most stuff. If you play normal mode and don't wear power armor and don't build up settlements then the junk is useless.
Author’s Note: This article is essentially a Fallout 4 mod guide (or list) with installation instructions. It’s worth noting that a Nexusmods user named Haoswidasee. I designed my list to be sleek, lore-friendly, and fun to read. However, once you get the basics, I highly recommend you scroll through Haoswidasee’s list.

Though we’ve never spoken, I know he would want me to plug his Edit: We talked, he’s cool.In case you’ve been asleep in a vault for the last 220 years, the recently released, Bethesda-created Survival Mode left quite a crater when it exploded onto PCs and consoles earlier this year.Survival Mode addresses a complaint common among Bethesda RPG veterans: There comes a time at the midpoint of these games, whether it be Fallout or Elder Scrolls, where the challenge fades away. The Player Character is far too powerful and well-equipped, and Quick Travel abilities and Save-Scum tactics ease the player away from any sense of risk or exploration. There’s a ton of crafting available; but with an overabundance of supplies and the ability to fast travel, there’s little choice about what to get. Why not zip back-and-forth collecting every piece of loot and crafting every top-level upgrade?Personally, I put down Fallout 4 in the months after release. I was excited at launch, but I quickly grew bored. Fast traveling from quest marker to quest marker, I was blasting baddies and strip-mining the game world but I lost the magic of exploration and survival. My years of RPG experience betrayed me. Survival Mode overcharges the thrill of Fallout 4.Survival Mode is available on any platform.
All it takes is a slide of the difficulty slider all the way to the right, and you’re in business. Before you start, read carefully. It’s important to know that once you convert a save game to Survival Mode, there’s no turning back so I suggest starting a new game. I also suggest using modifications. If you’ve got the will to live in the wasteland, you owe it to yourself to follow this guide and get the fully modded survival experience.Author’s Note: I own a Windows laptop, so I wrote this guide for the PC player. With a little help, I could easily adapt it to be console-friendly too. If you’re following along on an Xbox 360 or a PS4 — do your best. There’s plenty of content in here available on Bethesda’s integrated mod manager.
I will also do my best to update this guide as I receive feedback from console players. Fallout 4 Mod Guide IntroductionBethesda’s engine purrs gloriously as-is, but injecting the right user-created content supercharges the Fallout 4 world. The gold standard for PC modding is the. The Nexus Mod Manager is free and easy to install. The mods themselves, however, are a bit more tricky. With modding, there are a thousand ways to (temporarily) crash your game if you get ahead of yourself. Read this whole guide in full before you start hackin’ and whackin’ at your game files. If something goes wrong and the tinkering is only making it worse, uninstall your game and reinstall it.I have structured this guide to be as user friendly as possible. The mods are curated with emphasis placed on ease of access.
You can start tinkering once you’ve got the basics! You’ll be a boss soon enough, playa.I’ve also paid careful attention to keep the content as lore-based and immersive as possible. I’ve looked at and tested a great many mods for this guide. If your favorite mod isn’t here, it’s probably for one of three reasons:. I’ve avoided mods that allow the player to craft finished goods like armors and weapons from scratch. The weight limit on Survival strongly discourages hoarding, so these mods aren’t the best fit for Survival mode.
I’ve also limited myself to one weapon mod. In order to have multiple mods that add new weapons, a process called “merge patching” is required. I’ve included a little bit about merge patching below, but the procedure might be a little confusing for the average newbie. I also didn’t include mods that require non-standard set-ups. Sometimes I forget or overlook things. This project was much bigger than I thought it would be.Load OrdersA This tool and the r should be your first downloads — besides, of course,On the matter of DLC: Far Harbor may be one of the best Fallout DLC’s ever, but it’s an area geared for high-level players.
That doesn’t mean it’s worth skipping, however, and it does add some items available for the entirety of the game.If you’re just picking up the game and want to do a Survival mode run, I’d recommend sticking with Automatron. Automatron’s robot companion building is awesome for mad scientist types, and it’s always fun to battle the robot-themed Raider faction bundled in the release. As far as Nuka World goes, I could not be more excited. New enemies and custom robots? Sign me up for Automatron! At this time I would not recommend any of the settlement building DLC.Author’s Note: Console modding is a far cry from it’s PC counterpart — it’s a great thing, but we all need to work together to hammer out the kinks. Not all mods are available for consoles yet, and while it sucks, it’s worth remembering that mods are created by real-life community members with normal lives.
Please do not spam the creator of your favorite mod and ask them when they are porting it to console!.Since I started this project, there’s been great community outcry about the theft of PC mods and their illegitimate console ports. I don’t have much good to say about it, but it seems Bethesda is taking some action by making theirStill, there’s a — I’m not going into it here; but I will if there is demand. For now, just follow these links and use the “Download with Mod Manager” button. When installing, some mods will ask for your preference for a particular setting. Feel free to try whatever setting you prefer, but it’s wise to stick with the modder’s recommended setting at first. — A must-have mod that affects how the game processes far away areas, and significantly boosts outdoor performance. — A beautiful mod that enhances the look and feel of water. — This mod significantly increases the severity of weather and comes with several different options. Fallout 4 is gorgeous.
— A highly customizable mod that darkens nights and adjusts enemies’ vision to match. — This mod seems simple, but it tenfold.
If your audio is crackling, lower the “Master” audio slider within the game options and increase the volume on your speaker system. — This mod adjusts indoor lighting to make dark areas a little (or require a stealth — compromising flashlight). — This is not an engine tweak, but rather a project to open up some of the boarded houses around Boston. It also adds some free-form crafting quests. — Adds 111 lore-friendly songs to the Diamond City Radio rotation.
Of course, this interrupts the DJ’s normal song introductions just a teensy bit, but it’s well worth checking out. — Sorts the player’s inventory so all items of the same type stick together. This mod makes it easy to find bottles, grenades, and the correct food in the inventory. When installing, this mod asks the player if they want to make ammo weightless — do not choose this option; it’s against the spirit of Survival mode.
Valdacil’s Item Sorting saves so much time when popping into the inventory for grenades or food. — This mod makes the “Steamer Trunk” at the end of every dungeon contain legendary items. It’s a nice bonus to the player, and one of the only mods on this list that makes the game easier. — You won’t believe you played without it. He’s compiled two mods featuring other works by his friends in the modding community that serve to flesh out some of the common enemy factions. Together with these other great character mods, the people of the wasteland should be a lot more exciting — whether you’re talking to them or shooting at them.
— This mod adds a lot of strength and diversity to a very common enemy, the Super Mutant. Included are some improvements to late game mutants, a variety of stealth mutants named the Nightkin, and new mutant loot. A super mutant companion available in the base game has been redone to be a stronger and more likable chap. Be sure to get the latest version, version 1.3. — Raiders are the most common enemy in Fallout 4, and Madmax’s other mod brings some much needed color to the raider faction. This mod adds several outfits and masks available to the Raiders, as well as upping the strength of the raider power armor.
It also adds a special heavily armored raider called the Dreadnaught. — In the base game, Preston Garvey’s Minutemen retain a generic appearance — even as the faction grows to immense strength. The “basic” version of We Are The Minutemen equips Minutemen across the commonwealth with more powerful weapons, specialty armor, and a variety of stylish headgear. It also increases the range and usefulness of the flare gun, and increases the chance of Minutemen patrols across the Commonwealth.
Bethesda got everything right with the ways the ghouls move and attack: This mod just makes them spookier. — Simply, this mod makes mouth and teeth look nicer. It really does add a lot, especially when so much of this game is watching people talk at you. — This mod adds some additional luster and attractiveness to the eyes of Fallout. This mod also existed in Skyrim. — For some reason, these armored helicopters fall out of the sky incredibly easily in the base game. This mod corrects that.
— Bethesda might have cut away many of the fun RPG-elements that make Fallout great, but there are definitely some aspects of the game, both good and bad, that tie Fallout 4 to it’s roleplaying lineage. One of the silliest features is the necessity of a charisma-boosting “trading outfit” in order to get the best prices at the shop.

With this mod, it’ll be a lot easier to switch between different styles. Big ups to Nexusmod’s registrator2000 for not freaking out when he sees I jacked his gif. CombatIt’s clear the devs really put some time and effort into Fallout 4’s shooting mechanics.
Gunplay feels solid and looks great. Still, if Fallout 4 has taught me anything, it’s that there’s always room for upgrades. — This mod adds dynamic bullet physics to all the weapons, making them feel a lot more responsive. If you’re a fan of the combat in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, check this out. If these words all read like gibberish and you need to see explosions to be convinced, watch. — Red Orchestra 2 players remember the sick pulled-back look in that title’s scoped weapons.
This mod brings that enhanced feeling of battlefield awareness to Fallout 4. There’s a ton of immersion potential available with See-Through-Scopes, but it comes at the cost of the “hold breathe” feature. Available in the setup of this mod is the option to leave the default scopes in the game — I’d recommend it. See-Through-Scopes is sick.
Also pictured: raider overhaul gas masks!. — comparing the vanilla Fallout sounds and Towbie’s updates. The video isn’t quite up to date, but it gives a general idea of the sound swaps. — This mod upgrades the textures on the Combat Rifle and Shotgun. They look beautiful. ’s a reskin he did of the hunting rifle as well. — Power Armor Movement Sounds adds weight to the incidental noise.
— Tucked away in the Wasteland is an opportunity to encounter a foreign creature with an amazing gun. In the base game, unfortunately, that gun only made sense for pistoleers. Not any more. — Adds a plethora of bayonets, laser sights, and tactical flashlights. The laser sights and flashlights are modding marvels in their own rights, as that technology is completely outside what is available in the game. The bayonet upgrades are pretty fantastic too, as the vanilla bayonet options are relegated entirely to low-level upgrades.
There seems something silly about adding a laser sight to a laser rifle. — Warning! This mod is a huge but awesome change: It allows any weapon to be re-chambered to new ammo types. In vanilla Fallout 4, the ultimate hunting rifle upgrade is a.50 receiver. Now the player can chamber the weapon with a separate upgrade and take advantage of something like a hair-trigger receiver. — This mod takes a lot of the guesswork out of weapon and armor upgrading.
Now; you can see exactly what you’re getting before you spent your hard-earned scrap. — There are a host of features that made this unique weapon a great addition to the Survival game. It’s silenced, deals moderate damage, and converts easily from SMG all the way up to precision rifle. It also fires the otherwise-unused 5mm minigun ammo.A note on weapon modding and merge patches:Naturally, there are a ton of original weapons added to the game by users.
Crossbows, modern weapons, ports of older Fallout weapons — anything you can think of has been added to the game.Careful consideration led to the choice of the Spetsnaz Rifle for my curated list. I picked it because of the role it filled within the already present weapon selection. In addition, it’s low-damage enough that enemies with the weapon did not dominate the player. These are important things to remember before you go crazy adding weapons. However, there’s a more complicated reason why I didn’t include multiple mods featuring enemy-carried weapons. In most weapon mods, the file includes a section that tells Fallout which enemies to supply with the added-in weapon.
With several mods affecting the same enemy population, Fallout only features the weapon most recently added to the game. The process to overcome this inconvenience is called. I won’t go into it here, except to tell you it’s not that hard but you’ll need.Don’t let me scare you away from installing F04Edit and creating a merge patch! I interviewed modder, creator of the featured Sptetsnaz Rifle, and he said merge patching was his introduction to modding just a few years ago.
He works a day job in marketing, and now he’s creating badass weapons worth writing about. That could be you, a mod-making superhero. Honorable MentionsThere are some mods I just have to mention, even if I didn’t include them in the list for whatever reason. Some mods are awesome even when they don’t work. — Have you ever wanted to convert the 10mm pistol into a SMG or carbine?
Fallout 4 Exploration Mods
This mod allows that and so much more. Edit: Okay, so this mod doesn’t work very well. I used it for a long time, but it has serious bugs. It is awesome, though. Likereally cool. Keep an eye on this one, it’ll be glorious when it’s fully functional.
— If I would have used companions, I definitely would have put the effort forth to use this mod. Not only does it allow the player to strategically control their companions during battle, but it also allows the player to open the companion’s inventory from a distance with a hotkey. It requires a little effort to set up, and use of the. ATS Replacer— I don’t care for V.A.T.S. In Survival, I used the 90% damage reduction (VATS defense) as a crutch.
This mod adds lore friendly bullet time in replace of VATS, which will consume AP and still work with many of the perks. —.NSFW. This mod is a must-get starter kit if you’re into modded female armor and looks.
I don’t have it, or know much about it. I’ve heard it adds a lot of curves. — This mod does a bunch of things, including adding the ability to wear armor over clothes. However, it also has a ton of finished-goods armor crafting. It’s hugely popular, but not, in my opinion, for a serious Survival player.

Still, the beauty of this is that the choice is up to you, huh?. — People love this mod because it shows them, in full, the potential dialogue options.
I don’t care because I press sarcastic every time (and it was acting up on me during the Survival Mode beta.). — In survival, it’s often smart to avoid tangling with some of the wasteland’s most dangerous baddies. This mod ensures Dogmeat doesn’t start any fights the player can’t finish by revamping his behavior. In the newest version, everyone considers Dogmeat a friend — be warned!.I have not tested to see if it works with Everyone’s Best Friend. — I didn’t use it myself, but this mod turns the Gunners from generic baddies to a more fleshed out minor faction. Interestingly, Gunners will be neutral towards the player if this mod is installed. If you’re looking for a Gunner graphical mods, check out.
All kinds of settlement mods — There’s a ton, folks, but all you need is a bed and a magic water spigot. Saving Solutions — I really enjoy the inability to save on command. I think it adds a lot of tension to the game. Still, I understand how a new player could might not need more tension.
Two of the best mods for introducing saving in a lore-friendly and balanced way are,. Fadingsignal’s camping mod is sweet, but I didn’t use it myself! Survival TipsSurvival Mode is supposed to be hard, and the risk of losing everything is part of the fun: but if you lose too much progress the game isn’t fun anymore, so let’s not do that. Let’s have a good time instead.I’ve got some ideas about things you can do at the start of the game to make your time easier.
I’ve also got some notes about things you can do late game get around the map more smoothly.A great part of the fun in any game is discovery. I don’t want to take that from you. Still, the systems in Fallout 4 are complicated, and they don’t always make sense. My goal with this guide is to keep you from making all the dumb mistakes that I did as I was figuring out this game.
Character CreationThere’s so much about Fallout 4 builds that I feel disingenuous preaching a single build, but I’ve got a few general tips. First, stick to one weapon type. If this is the first time you’ve heard this information, do yourself a favor and just pick rifles. Secondly, everyone needs enough agility to sneak. Sneaking is mandatory.
Lastly, I wouldn’t worry about crafting too much; It’s true, gun nut is fantastic, but read the “modding for dummies” tip below a few times before you settle on a crafting-heavy character. This guy’s dopey grin may inspire confidence, but pay careful attention to your character build.
WaterDon’t drink the river water! With a gear and a steel — the equivalent of a hammer and a brick, you can build a water pump in any patch of dirt. Plop one down in Sanctuary, and you’ll have a clean source of water to refill any bottle you come across. Vladil’s item sorting will make it easy to find and locate bottles in the wild. Purified water is an essential survival item and serves as a reliable source of healing as well.
This thing is so handy. SleepSleep-to-save is a huge part of what makes Survival mode so engaging. Craft a bed as soon as you emerge from the Vault, and every time you encounter a new Settlement.
If you’re not keen on losing progress, I’d suggest sleeping in every spare bed and filthy bedroll you run across. Also, there’s a temptation in Survival Mode to make each respawn a trial-and-error run at the same frustrating objective. If you keep dying in the same place, perhaps it’s time to go somewhere else (or come back in a suit of Power Armor). SettlementsObviously, Survival Mode isn’t the place to build showy settlements, but there are a few strategies which complement settlement building nicely. Settlements require beds, food, defense and water to function properly.
The most cost efficient bed is the sleeping bag. Placing sleeping bags inside (under a roof) grants a happiness bonus. There are no happiness penalties for densely packing the sleeping bags. Settlers love the cuddle nest! The best defensive structure are turrets, as the fortifications require settlers to man them. There’s no “best” food in terms of settlement stock, but melons are beloved community fruit as they quench thirst (in the player) as well as hunger.
At the end of the day, my survival settlements are more like squats outside important quest locations like Hangman’s Alley and Boston Airport. What a nice place to sleep in the rain! (Weapon) Modding for DummiesTrust me, this is way easier than modding the game! You don’t have to be scientifically inclined to scrape up elite weapon and armor mods. With good luck and a careful eye you can loot upgraded weapons from your foes.
Take the upgraded weapon and remove the mod by equipped the basic component (i.e. Upgrade to “standard reciever”) at a weapons bench. You will then have the elite mod to apply to your favorite piece. Vertibird GrenadesBrotherhood of Steel Paladin Danse judges character quickly, and he seems to like you. Whether you agree with his factions techno-facism or not, a few quests for the Brotherhood and a quick trip to the Prydwyn will net you Vertibird Signal Grenades.
These bad boys will serve as immersive fast travel once the reality of the maps huge depth starts to set in. Buy them from Proctor Teagan every time you’re there.
(By the way, if you don’t know what the Prydwyn is — just keep following the main story!). There’s a few ways to get around quickly in Survival Mode, but Vertibirds are the best way. Purifier TownThis strategy is so good that some people consider it immersion breaking. Building a collection of purifiers at any settlement with water deposits a collection of purified water in the Workbench. This water can be accessed from any settlement with the Local Leader perk. This style of play, affectionately known as the “water baron,” and is considered fairly overpowered because of the trading potential of the water.
However, if you’re struggling to survive in the wasteland — you gotta do what ya gotta do. Power ArmorEvery character benefits from occasional power armor use, regardless of levels of intelligence and armorer. When power armor and vertibird signal grenades are available, it’s wise to follow the Brotherhood of Steel’s lead and perform an infiltration and reconnaissance mission before bringing power armor to bear.
There will be a time in every waster’s career when clearing buildings is too dangerous for even the most sneaky, most sharp-eyed survivor. When missiles and Molotovs start flying, it’s time to return to home base and crack open your power armor. Nothing beats tracking a tough baddie to their hidey hole and coming back with your walking fusion powered tank.
That’ll give um’ the business. QuestingTo me, the early game magic of emerging from the Vault was enchanting. So much so, in fact, that I restarted the game three separate times before completing the story. Wandering around like a scared duck is fun at first, but I strongly advise finding a nice place to restock and refit, and making liberal use of the Vertibird grenades in the late game.
Remember: though the game eventually makes you pick a faction, you are able to do favors for all of the major players until a very obvious point of no return. Take advantage of this!
(but still, I might advise living in a squat on the edge of the Boston Airport) Early Game LootAt the risk of spoilers, here are the items in the first two hours you simply cannot miss:1. In the starting town.2. A book which raises any stat.3. The by the Minutemen.4. The “double meat” book in ConclusionCongratulations! You’re ready to start your fully-modded Survival playthrough or are you? There’s a on in this Fallout 4 mod guide, and don’t forget that you may want to wait for Nuka World, coming August 30th.Author’s Note: As a working journalist, I tried my hardest to sell this article to the many fine videogame publications and websites from which I read my news.
Unfortunately, none of them bit immediately — and somewhere along the way, while I was talking to the wonderful modders who inspired this project — I realized the value of creating content for the pleasure of my community and for the sheer love of creation.
